Pattaya To Kanchanaburi

‍It’s no secret that Thailand is an awesome country to visit cause it has it all from beaches, mountains and islands to bustling cities like Bangkok and Phuket and if you’re looking for a great place to explore, there are many places in Thailand that offer the perfect getaway.

If you’re staying in Pattaya, this small beach city located on the coast of eastern Thailand is filled with so much to offer. Not only is it filled with beautiful beaches but is also home to one of the country’s top nightlife attractions, Walking Street.

If you’re in Pattaya and planning to go to Kanchanaburi or vice versa, here are the best options in my opinion with journey times and prices. Of course those can change at any time but as of now, these are the current numbers and options…

How To Get From Pattaya To Kanchanaburi By Train via Bangkok

You can get from Pattaya to Kanchanaburi by train but it’s a long way and takes around 8 hours to complete. The train leaves at 4:00am from Pattaya and arrives in Kanchanaburi around 12:00pm. It is a sleeper train called the “Discovery Train”.

The cost currently is 690 baht for a two-berth sleeper, 1,090 baht for a four-berth sleeper, 1,690 baht for a six-berth sleeper and 2,290 baht for an eight-berth sleeper but those times and prices are constantly changing so keep a check on the latest information before booking.

How To Get From Pattaya To Kanchanaburi By Bus

There are bus services that connect Pattaya with Kanchanaburi and you can book tickets online using a website like Bookme or Busonline. The best time to book tickets is the day before since it’s usually cheaper and the journey usually takes around 5 hours and costs about 500 Baht.

In order to book your bus tickets, you’ll need to go to the reception of the place you’re staying in and ask them what are the best prices and where can you buy tickets. It’s also a good idea to go to the actual bus station in Pattaya as they can give you the latest prices and departure times.

Of course, you can also speak to the locals as they are usually able to help you find the best prices especially if they’re living in Pattaya and have done the journey themselves.

Getting From Pattaya To Kanchanaburi By Taxi

Taxis are readily available in both destinations but their prices can vary so if you’re going from Pattaya to Kanchanaburi, the price will consist of a one-way fare of around 2000 Baht and take around 3-4 hours. You can book a taxi from any of the taxi offices around Pattaya but make sure you ask for a price beforehand because they have a tendency to overcharge non locals.

Driving From Pattaya To Kanchanaburi

If you’re coming from Pattaya, you can get to Kanchanaburi by road without any stop offs as it’s only a relatively short journey. The trip will take approximately 4 hours and take you north through Chon Buri and Bangkok.

From the roundabout near Pattaya, you’ll head straight until you reach the intersection with the Sisaket-Khanom/Railway Roads, after which you’ll make a turn to head towards Khanom/Sisaket-Savannakhet Road. Follow Route 7 towards to Bangkok before switching onto Route 4 for the rest of the journey.

How Far Is Kanchanaburi From Pattaya

Kanchanaburi is around 300km from Pattaya by road and can be reached in about 4 hours if you drive straight through without stopping. The train route is slightly longer as you have to travel from Pattaya to Bangkok and switch trains onto Kanchanaburi.

The bus and minivan route will follow the same route as a car so will be around 300km or slightly less.

Conclusion

Getting from Pattaya to Kanchanaburi is very easy but if you’re up for a long journey through the jungle, you can get there by train. However, the train takes around 8 hours to complete the trip but in my opinion is the most interesting as it passes through the rural Thai countryside and rice fields while meandering it’s way from Bangkok.

The easiest way to get there is obviously by car as the trip can be done in less than 4 hours and you can stop off wherever you want if you decide you need a break. Most tourists don’t have a car to get around but you can hire one for a day, week, month or even longer depending on how long you’re staying in Thailand.
